Supporting Our Community Since 1982
For more than four decades, Boundary Community School (BCS) has supported children and young people living on and around the Boundary Estate in Tower Hamlets. It is well known within the community, with many local mothers having attended the school themselves. Throughout the years, we have helped residents build brighter futures by providing education, training, advice, and guidance that open the door to meaningful employment.
Pioneers in Community Education
We were among the first organisations in Tower Hamlets to introduce mother tongue education, supplementary education, and youth activities for young people. From the very beginning, our work has been shaped by the needs and aspirations of the local community, and we have played a vital role in supporting the educational and personal development of young people across the area. Today, we continue that tradition by offering a wide range of programmes and digital skills training that enhance learning, build confidence, and open the door to long term opportunities. Our aim is to empower the community so they can meet growing challenges and realise their full potential.
Expanding Skills across the Community
In 1999, we broadened our work to include estate based ICT training for the Boundary Estate and surrounding neighbourhoods. These programmes equip residents with practical, job ready skills for careers in IT, retail, finance, and other growing sectors.
Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG)
Our IAG service helps local residents access clear information, personalised advice, and practical guidance on education, employment, training, wellbeing, and public services. We offer friendly one to one support and community outreach to build confidence, clarify options, and connect people with the opportunities they need to move forward.
Basic IT Training
For more than two decades, BCS has helped local residents build essential digital skills through high quality Basic IT Training. Our courses support learners of all ages to gain confidence and take part fully in an increasingly digital world. We also provide free, accessible, and nationally recognised resources such as Learn My Way through the UK Online Centres Network, allowing people to learn at their own pace and develop the digital skills needed for everyday life, education, and employment.
Pathways to Developing Skills
Pathways to Developing Skills supports socially excluded BAME residents in Tower Hamlets and surrounding areas who are unemployed or economically inactive. We work with individuals facing barriers such as low qualifications, limited English, or challenging experiences in education, helping them build confidence and develop practical skills. Through strong partnerships with local community organisations, we provide employment guidance and ICT training that enable residents to move closer to meaningful and sustainable work.
Welfare Benefits and Housing Advice
BCS now offers dedicated welfare benefits and housing advice, providing vital support to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship or the growing pressures of the cost of living crisis. Our team helps residents understand their entitlements, navigate complex systems, and access the support they need to remain secure and stable.
Boundary Community Support Zone
Boundary Community Support Zone is a warm, welcoming space where local residents can access practical help, friendly guidance, and the support they need to stay connected, informed, and confident in everyday life. We help people who face challenges with essential services, language barriers, digital skills, employment, finances, or social isolation. Our team provides tailored support across social needs, digital literacy, and employment, including CV building, job searching, interview preparation, and career advice.
Youth Provision
Since its inception, BCS has delivered a wide range of youth work activities designed to support personal development, build skills, and encourage positive social action among young people. These programmes often incorporate sports, creative arts, and community focused projects, offering engaging and meaningful opportunities for participation. Activities have included art and craft, sports, life skills, team building, games, mentoring, and outdoor adventure programmes - all aimed at boosting confidence, developing practical and interpersonal skills, and helping young people form new and supportive relationships. Through these initiatives, BCS provides safe, structured spaces where young people can engage, learn, and grow in an environment that nurtures their potential.
